Afternoon BioBlitz at Sieur de Monts
September 16 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying species within a certain area within a particular time. Schoodic Institute is hosting weekly BioBlitzes to help record the biodiversity of the Sieur de Monts area in Acadia National Park, where Friends of Acadia and the National Park Service have been restoring habitat and ecological functions of this historic part of the park. The aim of the BioBlitz is to use observations collected by volunteers (using an application called iNaturalist) to help understand which species are present.
The data collected at this event will contribute to Wild Acadia, a Friends of Acadia initiative, and Landscape of Change. As we strive to understand and protect Acadia’s native wildlife we are using collaborative efforts to record biodiversity in the park, document restoration “success,” understand change over time, and inform future management decisions.
There is no cost to participate but registration is required.
If possible, participants should set up an iNaturalist account and have the application installed on their mobile device (camera phone) before the event.
