Climate Communication Strategies to Connect and Inspire
May 12 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Land trusts across Maine are doing innovative work to plan for, mitigate and adapt to climate change both on their own and with their community.
It’s exciting and challenging work… yet talking about that work can feel like a challenge, too.
- How can you relate your land trust’s work to complex global climate systems?
- How can you effectively communicate the impacts that your work is having?
- How can you attract new supporters through your climate change communications?
In this two-part online workshop, participants will learn how to build their own climate change story; approaches for science-based communication around climate change that address ‘the curse of knowledge;’ strategies to infuse climate change into their messaging, including existing outreach efforts; and learn tips for building consensus within your organization, membership, and with funders and partners. This webinar series will be led by Judy Anderson from Community Consultants, LLC, Catherine Schmitt from the Schoodic Institute, and Tyler Kidder from the Onion Foundation and Maine Climate Table. This class will consist of two 90-minute sessions a week apart. Please plan to attend both sessions. We will workshop different methods and examples to explore the dos and don’ts of climate change communication. As a class, we will take a close look at how the public, and in particular Mainers, think and how to best communicate to them on the subject of climate change.
