Coastal Forest Structure: Summer Student Research at Schoodic
July 24 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Come hear two talks by Schoodic Institute interns on their summer work in Acadia and the region.
Henry Hurt from the University of Richmond presents “Summer Phenology and Fruiting of Coastal Understory Plants on the Schoodic Peninsula.” The purpose of this study is to assess the timing of leaf out, flowering, and fruit production (i.e., phenology) on several understory plant species in the coastal forest edges of the Schoodic Peninsula. The research results are intended to be used in conjunction with ongoing intertidal, forest, and bird research at Schoodic Institute.
Maik Werning, a graduate student at the Univeristy of Göttingen in Germany presents “An International Graduate Student’s Summer at Schoodic Institute.” Werning shares his summer research experiences (e.g., terrestrial 3D-laser scanning of Acadia’s forests) and other work with Schoodic Institute scientists.
