Coyote pup in grass

Due to COVID-19, this event has been CANCELLED and may not be rescheduled.  Please continue to check our website calendar as we reschedule some of these important events.

Join conservation biologist Geri Vistein for an engaging experience, exploring what it is like to live as a coyote.  How do we introduce our young people of all ages to a reclusive carnivore like the coyote?  And what experiences can we offer them to help them understand the hidden and complex social lives of this important carnivore?  The answer is: the children become coyote moms, dads, and pups; they find and secure their territories, look for food and signs of it, seek a water source, practice hunting skills, teach their pups survival lessons and create their own family howl… and more.  All the while they are having such fun, and at the same time immersing themselves in the same landscape that our coyotes share with us.

Geri Vistein is a Conservation Biologist whose focus is carnivores and their vital role in maintaining the biodiversity of our planet.  In addition to research and collaboration with fellow biologists, foresters, and organizations here in Maine, she focuses her work on educating our Maine community about carnivores, and how we can coexist with them.  She achieves this by working closely with our farmers who wish to learn coexisting skills, by creating outreach projects with artists, musicians, and puppeteers, experiential programs for our children, pursuing citizen science, and by presenting various programs on carnivores and us to diverse audiences all over the state of Maine.  She is the Founder of Coyote Center for Carnivore Ecology and Coexistence whose mission is to share with community members the science we know of our returning carnivores and the skills to live well with them.   Visit her educational website at: www.CoyoteLivesinMaine.org
