Lex Mitchell

Lex is an educator with the Mount Desert Island District of Acadia National Park, leading local students on field trips, interpreting for park visitors from around the world, and doing educational outreach to local schools. She loves getting people excited about exploring in nature and being able to teach a wide variety of subjects that connect students to the park.

Originally from Northern Virginia, Lex holds a B.A. in Earth Science with a special concentration in Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology from Columbia University. Prior to working at Schoodic Institute, she spent three summers as an outdoor educator in the Blue Ridge Mountains and interned at the American Museum of National History as a science educator. Her favorite subject to teach and learn about is geology, which she gets to do often on field trips.

When she’s not teaching, you can find Lex hiking in Acadia, exploring coastal Maine, or crocheting a wool sweater.
