The Maine Outdoor Film Festival returns to Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park on August 27, 2026 for an evening of outdoor adventure and conservation films under the stars!

The Maine Outdoor Film Festival is an outlet for Maine filmmakers’ creativity. By attending a Maine Outdoor Film Festival screening, thousands of Mainers get the chance to see specially curated outdoor adventure and conservation filmmaking in their area.
The film program will last approximately two hours. Event begins at 7:00PM, and screening will start at 7:30PM. We recommend bringing a chair and/or blanket, warm layers, a headlamp, bug spray, and your favorite snacks!
Tickets are $15 per person, or you can take advantage of our Friends & Family pack – 4 tickets for $50! You may register up to 6 people – tickets after the 4-pack will be priced at the discounted rate of $12.50 per person.

GRASSROOTS: THE RE:WILD YOUR CAMPUS STORY | 12.3 minutes | by Josh Izenberg, Palmer Morse | from: United States | New England Premiere | Short synopsis: Groundswell: The Re:wild Your Campus Story is a short film following the student-led movement to eliminate toxic pesticides from college campuses and replace them with native, ecologically restorative landscapes. Featuring stories from campuses including Grinnell College, Drexel University, UC Berkeley and UCLA, Groundswell explores the power of grassroots organizing, relationship-building, and collective action in the face of environmental challenges.
FISH FOR THE FUTURE | 5.03 minutes | by Matthew Benton | from: United States | Maine Premiere | Short synopsis: At the beginning of 2025 the Palisades fire ravaged the Santa Monica Mountains in Los Angeles. In the aftermath, conservation biologists and volunteers scramble to rescue one of the last endangered steelhead trout populations in the region before an upcoming rainstorm. The team has a short window to save as many fish as possible as mudslides threaten to wipe out their habitat.

STEWARD·SHIP – A LOVE LETTER TO THE MAINE COAST | 8.1 minutes | by Luke Kaneb | from: Maine | World Premiere | Short synopsis: A young sailor navigates Maine’s rugged coastline aboard a wooden boat, discovering that the freedom to explore is inseparable from the responsibility to care for the places that make that life possible.
CAUGHT | 6.1 minutes | by Kevan Doyle | from: United States | Short synopsis: Caught is a short documentary filmed in Sri Lanka that explores how building economies around recycling can inspire sustainable change in developing communities. Directed by Kevan Doyle, the film was featured in his TEDx talk after the organizer was so moved by its message, she insisted it be shared with the audience. Caught is a hopeful portrait of how local action can spark global impact—turning ocean waste into opportunity.
THE BOOK OF GEORGE | 15.5 minutes | by Danny Schmidt | from: United States | New England Premiere | Short synopsis: The Book of George traces the unlikely path of George McKenzie Jr., from a life shaped by violence to a career photographing the natural world. Now a mentor and guide, he brings young people into spaces they were never told they belonged.
THE HUMAN SIDE OF PLASTIC: ABBY BARROWS | 18.43 minutes | by Andrew Lynch, Ben Ayers, Rush Sturges | from: United Kingdom | Short synopsis: On Deer Isle, Maine, home to one of the world’s most productive lobster ports, warming waters and invisible microplastic pollution threaten a centuries-old way of life. As veteran lobsterman Joel Billings and his daughter Hannah reckon with the possible end of their family’s tradition, neighbor and microplastics researcher Abby Barrows offers a vision for a more sustainable future through plastic-free aquaculture.
THE MARKS WE LEAVE | 6 minutes | by Mitchell Milbauer | from: United States | New England Premiere | Short synopsis: The Marks We Leave is a short six-minute documentary that follows Bozeman-based artist Hailey Hosken as she creates a painting inspired by her experience climbing in the Gallatin Canyon; specifically the most prominent feature, Spare Rib. The film explores the deep connection between Hailey’s art and the landscape around her, showing how her time outdoors shapes the way she approaches her paintings.
BETWEEN MOON TIDES | 25.4 minutes | by Jason Jaacks | from: Massachussetts | Maine Premiere | Short synopsis: In a ribbon of saltmarsh in coastal New England, an intergenerational group of citizen scientists is trying to save the Saltmarsh Sparrow from extinction, one nest at a time.
