Susi Acord

Susi works to increase awareness, engagement, and support for Schoodic Institute in effort to advance science, education, and stewardship for parks, people, and the planet.

Before joining the Institute in 2021, Susi worked for Rural Action, a sustainable community economic development organization based in Appalachian Ohio working to promote thriving communities and healthy environments. During her tenure, she served as the organization’s Media and Communications Director, leading on donor communications and fundraising events from 2013-2021. Prior to that, she spent five years with Rural Action’s Sustainable Forestry program helping to increase the acreage of sustainably managed private forestland and on the development of forest product value chains across Central Appalachia.

Susi grew up in Miami, Florida and spent many summers and holidays in Maine before relocating full-time. She is a graduate of DePaul University and has a deep passion for rural communities, resource conservation, and outdoor recreation. When she’s not on campus, you can expect to find her hiking or biking one of our state’s great trails.
