We continue to navigate a rapidly changing landscape of science funding and disruptions affecting our close partner, the National Park Service. I am pleased to share that access has been restored to all previously frozen federal grants awarded to Schoodic Institute. This is the result of a preliminary injunction order by a United States District Court. Although long-term status of these grants remains unclear, thanks to your support we continue to restore degraded wetlands, develop new methods to manage invasive species, improve habitat connectivity, and collaborate with Wabanaki Nations.
A separate recent court order has also paused the planned Reduction in Force (RIF) for the National Park Service. This RIF reportedly would cause the layoff of 1,500+ more NPS staff, with an emphasis on natural and cultural resources and regional and national offices – many of the scientists and professionals with whom we collaborate every day. We remain in steadfast support of NPS. It is because of their dedication that everyone can experience and enjoy the unimpaired nature and cultural heritage of this country.
